About Gloria Huntington Page

July 2000

Gloria has had a few accidental falling downs since she got here in Owensboro, Kentucky area causing her to have aches and pains. Every time she fell she got more pain from the fall. She hopes to be able to be out of the wheel chair sometime next month in August. It seems if a Senior citizen has a bad fall once, then movement slowly gets harder with every other fall. I feel if I ever get to be of that age I want to carry a cane even if I do not need it because falling at that age is real bad. She has a back ache and a arm ache. Water was and is collecting in her legs so she has to take water pills. She says she feels a drawing sensation in her legs. Her last fall was in my sisters Evelyn's van I guess she fell inside the van while trying to get into a seat that is what caused her to need a wheel chair. I stayed a day with her one tuesday in July. It is hard for her to get around with so much body pain with out that rented wheel chair. It even looks like she might be afraid to stand on her feet without falling even with a walker but it must be that pain. You should have seen her eat a donut and get frosting on her face. I said mom, there is frosting on your face after she ate a vanilla pudding filled donut.

August 2000

( Aug 8) I just heard today for sure that Gloria is having her uterus surgery tommorrow morning on August 9th, 2000. She is not using her wheel chair. She still has a tough time getting around. She said she has to lean on things.
(Aug 9) Gloria made it through her surgery fine. What surgery with the uterus she had I do not know yet. I called her at the hospital after work and she had trouble talking. She said she was okay. Sorry about any mistakeness yesterday.
(Aug 11) I seen Gloria after work and she sounds much better today. I guess she got what ever it is tied up with her surgery. She may be going to a nursing home to strengthen her legs and to rest up some time very soon.
(AUG 25) Gloria has been in a nursing home at least a week now. I hope she is getting better day by day. She still has a urinary drainage tube empting her bladder.
(Aug 30) Gloria had the urinary drainage tube taken out monday Aug 28. Now she is less tied down to the wheel chair or for that matter any chair. She still feels the need for a chair though.
(Oct 10) Gloria has moved out of the nursing home. She is now moved into low income housing building. She still needs a walker to walk around but I get the feeling that she still likes a wheel chair to go places outside of the building. She has yet to go out by her self alone.

May 2001

Gloria does not have a wheel chair anymore but she still feels she needs a walker to get around and she feels she needs to be with someone outside her building.

June 2001 to July 2004

Gloria walked around with self determination and freedom with her walker. She took buses. She did grocery shopping. She went to the park and had a picnic with Johnathan and Collis and Evelyn's family sometimes. Evelyn took her to Evelyn's house to visit too sometimes. She had a nice time.

July 2004

Gloria had a congestial heart attack. She survived but now we can worry more about how she can afford a burial. She hopes to get hip surgury in August 2004. She had surgury, I guess, about 10 years ago for a broken hip and now it has somehow slipped out like and giving her so pain.

August 2004

(Aug 22>We wonder if she can make it on her own in her apartment when she gets out of the nursing home.
(Friday night Aug 27)Johnathan and Collis phone calls from their apartment in Saint Louis, Missouri to see if she is doing well and finds that she is not in the nursing but she is in her Owensboro, Kentucky apartment. She seems happy enough. The nursing home let her out Wednesday Aug 25, two thousand and four.
Gloria fell dead sometime between friday night, August 27 and saturday morning, August twenty eight. We are going to have a funeral in September 2004. She is now totally free in spirit.

Sincerely
Collis H.
